WHAT WE ARE PROTECTING
The historic village of Bellewstown is situated on a hill which overlooks the countryside of counties Meath, Dublin and Louth. Bellewstown enjoys rich, fertile land supporting a wide range of farming interests. There are panoramic views of the Dublin Mountains and the Great Sugarloaf in Co. Wicklow to the south, towards the Hill of Tara to the west, and the Cooley Mountains and the glistening Irish sea towards the north and east.
The area offers many amenities which are enjoyed by residents and visitors alike –
- The historic Bellewstown Racecourse takes pride of place on the hill, with meetings several times a year attracting big attendances.
- The Bellewstown Golf Course takes in all the views and has some challenging fairways to test the ardent golfer, along with a well-stocked pro shop and clubhouse.
- The Duleek/Bellewstown GAA Club and grounds, located in the centre of the race track, serves sports enthusiasts of all ages very well.
- The Bellewstown Pitch and Putt club occupies a well-designed course with a welcoming clubhouse.
- Cyclists relish the challenge of the undulating countryside and are to be seen working the hills every fine day.
- Leisure walkers and runners enjoy exercising regularly on the inner track of the race course.
- A public seating and picnic area is situated close to the entrance to the walk road and there is plenty of free parking available.
- The local church and St Theresa’s National School sit facing the racecourse and are very much part of the fabric of the village.
- The Bellewstown Inn, with its famous Hill Bar, is a popular stop for locals and visitors alike.
